I didn’t plan on becoming a dachshund breeder. But then again, nobody plans on falling completely, helplessly in love with a dog breed. It just happens.
The first time I held a miniature dachshund, I was done. There’s something about that little body, those enormous ears, and that personality that is somehow bigger than any dog three times the size. They are stubborn and sweet and ridiculous and loyal, all at once. I was hooked.
What started as a personal love for the breed turned into something more intentional over time. I started paying attention to the breeders I admired: the ones who health tested their dogs, who answered every question honestly, who stayed in touch with puppy families years after go-home day. I watched how they raised their litters, how they socialized their puppies, what they sent home with each family. And I thought: that’s what I want to do.
At Cherokee Hill, every puppy is born inside our home in Augusta, Georgia. They’re not raised in a kennel or a barn. They’re raised in the middle of family life, around noise and love and the everyday chaos that makes a dog confident and adaptable. By the time they go home with you, they’ve already heard the vacuum cleaner, met strangers, been held by kids, and figured out that the world is a safe place.
We work exclusively with miniature dachshunds because we believe in doing one thing really well. We register through AKC/CKC and stand behind every puppy we place with a 2-year genetic health guarantee.
But more than any of that, we just love these dogs. We love their drama and their loyalty and the way they follow you from room to room like a tiny, very opinionated shadow.
If you’re thinking about adding a miniature dachshund to your family, we’d love to talk. Reach out anytime. Railee responds personally to every message.
